I am filtered. I have filtered myself. Others do filter me.
I have placed my time in the hands of an employer, again.
so that I can get paid. so that I work. For security.
"You can take any time off that you want. any that you need"
But when I need it it's never the right time.
It's actually never a good time to want time off.
Maybe after we finish this order, maybe in a few weeks.
okay, I say, if you insist.
They do insist.
I punch in to my clock, my regulator. I am scheduled to do that at 8:00, out at five.
I miss the noon sun, stormy afternoons, colorful mornings
behind the walls of the warehouse, that mask.
"what do you want me to do now? What is my next task?"
"May I run get a drink of water? May I pee?"
Am I Alison or am I a fabric cutter?

It is time for change. It is time to travel.
I love this family at work, they are kind,
but I must get free again.
